I took a walk in my neighborhood the other day after a stressful day and ventured through a large cemetery near my house. As I walked along, I started to notice the dates on the headstones. There was a date of birth and a date of passing. In between was a 1-inch dash. I got to thinking that the dash represented the totality of that person’s life…it is very brief.
My “Dash”
As I pondered that thought, I gained a new perspective around what I was getting stressed out about. I also started thinking about how I could make my “dash” as effective, fruitful and joyful as I possibly can.
Counting Down
I have a friend who wears a digital watch he sets every morning to count down the minutes in his day from the time he rises to the time he goes to bed. During the day as he looks at his watch, he sees how much time he has left in that day. This is a perspective giver for him to make the most of his time. I like this because it can help you not sit back and just let life happen to you but be more intentional with your words and actions. It also can put into perspective the not-so-great things that happen during your day. This can be a great help as you work out your daily stress.
How are you spending your “dash?”
